Romain Grosjean
It is led to believe that Romain Grosjean has adjusted to life in the States and has his sights set in making long term commitments to IndyCar. The Swiss born Frenchman is having a stellar rookie season with one pole position and two P2 finishes all coming at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Road course for the Dale Coyne Racing team. Although IndyCar is a spec series (All cars are equal in performance) Dale Coyne Racing is one of the smaller operations across the grid in terms of budget, number of cars and setup knowledge. Grosjean’s initial contract specified that he would not partake in any oval races due to the dangerous nature of the race. However, what hints Romain will continue his stay in IndyCar is the fact that he had broken that agreement. On the 21st of August 2021, Romain Grosjean took part in the Grand Prix of Gateway, which is an oval race. It was amazing to see him learn the art of oval racing so effortlessly, making 4 overtakes within 5 laps. Unfortunately for Mr Dale Coyne the former Haas F1 driver is being linked with a move to a more competitive outfit. There are talks of him teaming up with Colton Herta and Alexander Rossi at Andretti Autosport, and for Grosjean to take part in every event on the 2022 calendar.
Alexander Albon
Red Bull Reserve driver, Alex Albon had recently won his maiden DTM race at the Nurburgring in the 2nd race of the season. there is a slim chance of the Thai driver to make a return to the F1 grid in 2022. However, with recent speculation that either a Red Bull or Alphatauri driver had tested positive of Covid-19, there is a chance for Albon to potentially impress team boss Christian Horner at this week’s Belgian Grand Prix. Luckily for Alex there is still hope as he could have a future in IndyCar. As I previously had mentioned Romain Grosjean may not re-sign with Dale Coyne Racing. Team owner Dale Coyne openly told AutoSport, “Talks with Albon and Redbull for 2022 has been in progress for over one year”. It is no question that the Thai driver is the top target for American outfit, with Red Bull still planning to back the young man.
New Home of Motorsport
There is no doubt that IndyCar may soon become the new home of Motorsport. Talents from junior series such as Alpine Junior Driver Christian Lungaard from F2 as well as Veterans from outside of single seater racing such as five-time NASCAR Cup series champion Jimmie Johnson have made appearances in the pinnacle of American Motorsport. The question is, who else?
